The Fort Walton / Navarre area is gorgeous. This place is very cat friendly with easy access to a big bay. And the white sand on Santa Rosa Island is nice as it doesn't stick to you like the sand here.Check it out.
They are VERY cat friendly and people sail there all the time. The food next door is great. I bet if you'll ate there and and partied at the Pogota they would be happy to have you leave the boat there at night. Also contact Bob Curry . He is tight with the Fort Walton Yacht Club and they have the Round the Island race June 25-27. I bought my boat there and they were all real nice group

What he said...I haven't sailed in the Panhandle - but many folk I respect have and rave about Fort Walton, Destin or Pensacola. The Atlantic coast is OK, but that surf can pack a whole lot more punch than the gulf and the water is a little colder.
That is the area I was thinking about since its a shorter drive pulling a boat. I am going to start searching for lodging in those areas and see what the best deal is. This is going to be a family friendly trip so if anyone else is interested in going let me know I think its going to be a blast!
Thanks, Floyd

May want to look for a Condo or house to rent and spread it around the group. The motels were a little high if I remember, but this was 6-7 years ago. It is about a 9-10 hour drive. Be sure to check out the Pagoda http://www.juanaspagodas.com/ . It has a sand floor and it is a BLAST.
I moved here from Gulf Shores - Pensacola area 2 years ago. Anywhere from Gulf shores to Destin is pretty nice. Pensacola Beach has the ocean on one side and the bay on the other similar to Galveston but nice water. You should find it a bit less costly than Ft Walton or Destin as well. Just stay away during Memeorial weekend. It is the "Rainbow" celebration for that week, lots of half naked gay people all over the place.

Bob thanks for the tip do you know of any specific beach areas that have beach houses instead of hotels & condos? Im justing thinking a hotel resort area would not really want a boat launching off where thier guest are swimming although I would be happy to give people rides.

Use Tami's link to find a place to stay and launch here http://www.juanaspagodas.com. Juanas would be good as there would be easy launch, restroom and place to eat and or drink when you need a break and beach volleyball too. Or Kirk could probably make some suggestions www.keysailing.com/keysail/
No just have fun. We had a great time there. Me and grand daughter sailed in the Great Bay Race out of Fort Walton Yacht Club when we where there. The water is to die for. You can see the bottom at 20 feet. Goes from emerald green to dark blue. And the best part the sand does not stick to you, just falls off. You can also go over to Santa Rosa Island and sail in the gulf if you want, but I would just stay in the bay. I would contact Bob Curry when you get a date set. He is tight with everyone there and a real nice guy.
The dates are looking like August 8-11, 2010 still debating on Narvarre or Pensicola Florida going to make a few more calls and will post an update soon.

Teddy check out the vrbo.com for Navarre beach it seems really affordable that time of year also the pictures of the beaches make it seem way less crowded than Pensacola so we maybe able to just roll our cats right out in front of the condos. The wife really liked the plan when she saw the pictures on that site so run it by the girlfriend and get back with me.

You got it the place looks awesome the dates are solid I just need to go over the lodging this weekend as I have busy all week trying to get the 5.5 ready for this Saturday almost ready just a few more things and she should be ready! Now I need to post and see if anyone is going to the beach or it was all for nothing. I will post some lodging ideas here when its narrowed down my main concern is keeping our boats as close to the water and our rooms as possible.

If Todd and Chewie come, maybe we can get them to pitch a tent on the tramp to his boat and keep an eye on things. Just a thought.....you all know how cantankerous Todd can be.
Let me know if I can help you with anything.
Daniel
If you'll party, eat and drink there a lot I bet they would let you keep them on the beach there. Big ass bay right in front and flat water. I may have a new job, if I can get off then I will join you. Glad I was able to help. You will have a blast in the Navarre area.
You might take a look at St. Joseph Peninsula Park, it's in the panhandle about mid point. It will not be crowded, you will have to launch on the Bay side at a boat ramp but you could sail around the peninsula and park your rig on the beach across from the cabins, there is a boardwalk from the cabins to the beach. http://funandsun.com/parks/StJoseph/stjoseph.html
The scoop I got today on Navarra Beach is you will be sailing in the ICW or Sound??? In other words not the gulf but the bay and if you want to sail in the gulf you can drive to Pensacola and use the cut I assume its a channel to the gulf so it kinda seems like they dont want you sailing on the gulf side for some reason? Although the guy who told me this claims sailing in the ICW is some of the best in the world! Did I mention he owns a rental condo that backs up to the ICW and has a private beach where you can leave your cat setup? How does this sound to you guys? Update Today I called Juanas bar and they said you can just roll you cat onto the gulf side beach and sail the gulf also.
