Seen it myself a time or two at the storage yard. Floyd, you may want to pose the question on the forum page, for faster results.

Thanks Ernest I moved it to the forum side. Zulu will probably end up on craigslist after the sun bakes it to death and be way overpriced.
How hard is it to buy a tarp and cover your boat?

Sailor's Law
Floyd, there is an offical Sailor's Law............if someone does not use their boat at least once very other month, then you can back up to her and take it! That is how I ended up with Mike Nelson's I17R.  He decided he rather be married than go sailing, so now I have a spare I17R.  I will soon also have an H16 as I have given Britt & Dave Froming fair warning about them not using their boat.  Don't worry about registration and clear title; there are ways around that :)  So go get her.  You can hide her in my back yard until the dust settles.  Just remember about the "once every other month rule" or I will have a 5.5 in my collection!

Todd that sounds like a good rule to me! These are the boats that people put on craigslist after the boat is dead and they think its a race ready boat they say something like you just need to buff off that white chalky stuff and she's good as new!

Teddy,
People were saying the guy would come down on the price but I could tell he was fine just paying the storage on it in fact unless someone gives him $600 for the trailer it will sit for another 10 years! After talking to Performance Cat I felt better about the deal and I owe a big thanks to Tim for hooking me up with a trailer and Frank for a temporary storage space! THANKS GUYS!!!
I do want to pull those graphics off and make some small repairs and buff it out to a nice shine!
I will be probably be blowing up your phone for a month so get ready to screen your calls! lol!

New name fits you
Floyd,
Congratulations on your new boat.  Since your new boat has a pink color jib and some pink in the main sail, I think the new name that Patrice St. Clair gave you fits to a tee.... Pink Floyd!  That will be your name from now on.
Now don't let Dave Froming know about those sails.  He is very found of pink; which seems to be some weird side effect from wasting money when you buy a power boat.

Thats a great band but hate to bust your bubble not the first time someone has tried to give me that nick name. The pink in my sail is way better than the rainbow on my first H16. Lol! I am going to need Todd G nick name Yoda to look at my new boat and tell me if the force is strong in this one! Lol
You guys rock can't wait to hit the beach this year!

If anyone comes across a 5.5 for sale (specifically a set of 5.5 beams), I'm interested...

Sounds like someone knows where some 5.5 hulls are? I will keep my eyes out for some beams but if you ever want to get rid of those hulls let me know please.
Thanks,

Our Squares are for sale....
Since the trimaran, we don't play with the small boats much.
They are lonely.
Mine is a 1982 NACRA 5.5-hull 18 Square, with lengthened mast, custom Ullman (Glaser/Ogletree) main, buttloads of extra parts, custom racking tilt trailer;
Jay's is Dennis Palin's custom creation 18 Square with 12' beams, carbon mast, beautifully built boat

Does the carbon rig boat run a I17R mast?

The carbon boat has a Tornado mast, I believe.
The boats are to be sold whole. Neither of us are interested in any sort of parting out of these boats.

You should put them in the FS
You should put them in the FS section with some pics! They sound like awesome creations. With the GT and the dash coming up somebody may be looking for such a boat. I bet the tramp is nice and open! I bet a T rigged 18 would be pretty fun. Extra tall mast and sail area for the extra beam width....Sounds right up my alley!

If i had a boat with a wide
If i had a boat with a wide beam like that id run a Spin or furled hooter on it and scare myself! I bet that would be one seriously fun ride. I can see where the headsail wouldnt be needed solo, but it sure would be a whole lot of fun.

Stepahanie, You can buy the beams from SSS Steel or Globe tech engineering. If i recall they were about $75ea. for the proper gauge thickness and O.D.
SSS is local so no shipping. GTE is out of state with very easonable shipping.

Stepahanie,
Let me know if you want the measurements of the beams on the 5.5 and if a dolphin striker off a 5.2 would work I may someone who has one.

The Squares are designed very
The Squares are designed very specifically.
Carry two in breeze... well ask "Dangerous" Don about that rather expensive lesson.
Carry more sail than it was designed for? Mike Parsons can tell you about that rather expensive lesson.
If you had a boat like these and ran a big headsail on it you might get scared for the short time it would take to break the boat, and then it might be even scarier...

Clean up tips
Floyd,
If you can wait, Mother Nature should help hide the old 'Zulu' name after a season of summer sun light.  Had the same "shadow problem" when my Inter 17R decal wording wore off.  If you put striping on, you will have the same probelm when it wears off.  If you can't wait , you can changed your boat name to "Pink Zulu Floyd"
As for the duct tape remove, you can try heating the tape up using a heating gun.  This is a little tricky becuase you do not want to "cook" the dacron, so you have to patient and not get the gun too close for too long.  You want to heat the tape up enough to wear the adhesive on the backside becomes sticky.  Once the adhesive is sticky, you want to rotate the tape, NOT pull it right away.  Rotating the tape will break the adhesive bond.  Rotate the tape a few time, then gently pull the tape off.  It may take a few "cycles" of heating and rotating before the tape comes off....... which reminds me of a girl I once dated, but that another story.

Todd any idea what to use to remove the old glue? On shadow lines I would prefer it just blend back in so would it speed up the process if I do not to wax those areas that have the shadow? Right now the boat does not have any wax or sealer on it.
My lines, rigging and tramp are arriving this week so if I can get Teddy by the house on Tuesday to help me add some support to that deck and sell me one of his spare jib blocks I should be able to get this boat wet real soon!!

Ill be there Tuesday after work. If you get/got the 5200 we can go ahead and do the beams too. After talking to a great builder we should probably flip it upside down to do the repair. we can get it done in no time!

Glue removal
A can of industrial strength adhesive remover from Home Depot will work pretty good. Off mosquito spray works pretty good also in a pinch. Spray/wipe it on and scrape it off with a scraper or straight razor. You may not ever get the shadow from the decals off without painting though.

I wetsanded it with 400 & 600 then buffed with 3m compound you were right about the 400 you should only use it if you really need it you can see the swirls it leaves behind before going over it with 600 scarey!
This is not something I want to make a habit. See you on the beach soon.

Teddy thanks for all your help on the 5.5 today I would have been so lost these Nacras are very diffrent than Hobie 16's.

Jib setup?
The jib setup on the 5.5 takes up way too much real estate on the tramp! I was talking with Frank today about putting the jib blocks on the front crossbar like the Hobie 16 this seems like it would be a pretty easy modification. My question was has anybody done this and is there a reason the jib blocks are that far back on the older Nacra's & Prindles?
Otherwise I think a set up something this would be easy to make and would work well:

If you just give the hulls 60 days they will blend pretty well with just some help from mother nature.  We pull decals all the time and you will be shocked at how fast they will dull now that they are open to the elements.

Thanks.
Bob,
It may take a little longer as the new home for the 5.5 is inside my garage out of the sun. That jib block upgrade above would have been the next thing I was going to put on that Hobie 16 you might want to check it out as its amazing what small adjustments to the jib make.

Jib block set up
The jib blocks are where they are because of the length of the foot of the jib. If you put them on the front crossbeam, you gotta get a new jib with a shorter foot. It's a good idea because it will give you more room but you may lose a little power while beam reaching. Great sailmaker for the 5.5 is Chip Buck at Whilrwind sails.

The option ive seen was to
The option ive seen was to shackle them to the jib track. They are still far enough back but you lose some of the adjustment of the 4way. I would try this first beause you dont have to modify anything to give it a try. If it works ok then ditch the 4 way. If yall were running the dash i would say to leave the 4 way on so you have more adjustment. You have plenty of time to tune on the dash to get the boat right where you want it. Im pretty sure when sheeted to the track the jib is a little farther out than normal and may not perform as well upwind since the slot between main and jib is pretty big?

I had the system on my 16 when I use to race. It is great as you can make adjustments from the wire.

Jib Blocks
The blocks on my 5.8 are shackled to the jib track. Like Teddy said, you may not be able to point as high. The 4-way syatem was an option on some boats. Rick VanEman's 6.0 has the 4-way system and his boat can point much higher than mine. I never noticed that the 4-way setup was in the way or anything, since I was hanging out most of the time. Also, I doubt you need to worry about pointing high for the Dash, last year it was a broad reach to Galveston. I would think very seriously before going to all that trouble modifying your jib, not sure how that would affect your Portsmouth number if you intend to race, either.

Jib?
Joe I just got a quote for a mainsail from Chip for $1125 so I will be adding that to my wish list. Giving up power for tramp space does not seem like a good trade off as Ernest said the crew just needs to stay out on the wire! lol! Teddy I am crewing with Frank on the dash but I am hoping we can do a couple of practice runs before the race and we can take the 5.5 on one of them.
