This late winter pilgrimage to Mustang Island State Park has been scheduled for February 19 - 21.
This has long been the Austin Fleet's first chance to get back in the surf & start warming up for the GT300. There is no formal racing, but if there are two boats on the water you know how that goes. There will be lots of relaxing, catching up with good friends and all the sailing you care to do. The surf can be breathtaking this time of year, but generally starts out small in the morning. Weather will be chilly at night; the water the same...bring drysuits/wetsuits if you plan to sail.
We will set up an encampament well down the beach. I will likely be the first to arrive & will post details here re: exact location. You may camp on the beach (RV or tent) or you may reserve an RV space with full hook-ups at the official park campground. There is water available on the beach, but not much else. There are hot showers next to the RV park plus restaurants, convenience stores, etc within 5 miles of the park. If there is no fire-ban, we will have a bonfire each night. Rigth now fires are allowed on the beach, but please check with the park before hauling a ton o' wood down to be safe.
Andrew Tatton & I generally sponsor a pot luck cookout on Friday or Saturday night and plan to do the same this year. We also coordinate the official "drink" of the event...Friday night is Irish Car Bomb night; Saturday is for BVI-style Pain Killers. Watch here for more details...
You are welcome to bring all your water toys - fishing gear, kayaks, surfboards, Sunfish, you name it....or just come relax on the beach. See ya there!
